July 4 Before top of arc tended before bird landed.
Generally flights averaged 50 feet. After
wending some songs, John tried to collect the
bird & did not succeed. Unfortunately as he
thinks this is the northernmost record for the
state (no breeder).
Returned to 1011 Florence St. about
13:00. Had lunch + pray and specimens. Picked
up shotgun from repair shop - do not find
any more magnum shells.
July 5 - Silver City + mi NW Cliff, Grant Co., New Mexico.
Up at 0500. After coffee drove up to Little Walnut
Creek campground N of Silver City. In parking lot
area were 2-3 singing DO Gray Flycatchers. John
found a pair of territorial Antigo Buntings in
nearby willows. I walked to SE to another
ranch road + followed this uphill. Area is
open pine oak woodland. Mexican Jays were
present in several flocks of 8+ birds. Chipping
Sparrows were feeding fledgling young. Fled-
grown young Black-Throated Gray Warblers also
being fed by adults. Found Brown-eyed Bushtit
carrying food + remaining in group of 50. Could not
locate nest or young. Rufous-crowned Sparrows
were spaced along road + down hillside along upper
