LLWSF 16 Journal July 3 Signal Mountain, Grant Co., New Mexico. Drove up to Signal Mt. from Silver City about 0500. Had flat tire on way. Arrived in conifer forest at about 0600. Birded for a half hour then In response to Piping Owl imitation following birds came in: Downy Woodpecker, Western Tanager, Hermit Thrush, Pygmy Nuthatch, Wk-62. Nuthatch, Audubon Warbler, Robin, Hairy Woodpecker. Further up road came to area of Douglas Firs + aspen with locust, Acer + understory shrubs. This is good area for Western Flycatcher Red- faced Warblers. John collected two Cardellinia + 2 or 3 Pomaceis blemei. Also saw a ? O. t. feeding ? recently fledged young, Apparently a southern finding record for the species. James carniaps had full-grown young nesting in family groups + I found a nest in road-cut containing 2 1/2 gray young. Also saw young Rufous-sided Towhee which was in midst of postpreusal molt. See notes under Puro gambeli + Cardellinia for postpreusial molt records. Left mountain about [illegible] 0830. Back to Silver City at 0925. Prepared specimens. Spent rest of day shopping, getting equipment repaired etc.
