June 27 1 mi. w. Ft Huachuca, Cochise Co., Arizona.
in field at 0545. Went back to spot where shot Cy. Lark
Sparrow at dusk last night. Area is grazed & fenced grassland
with weeds & mesquite. Found 2 singing Bd Botteri
Sparrows. Spent until 0745 standing + recording songs of
then birds. Then prepared specimens, packed up + headed
for Clinicahua Mts. Drove thru Ft. Huachuca + had
dinner in Bisbee. Far miles out of Bisbee we continued
due east to K.666. Took this to 181 which we
followed to base of Mts. Here took gravel road climbing
up to Rustler Park in the pines. At Rustler Park we
found logging operations with camping prohibited. John
collected here for about 1 hour, I just bird-watched
after discovering my gun was broken. Took birds
with us + headed for Cave Creek Canyon + south fork
camping area. Stopped at SW Research Sta. (AMNH)
