Mt. Wood Rats. April 13 - 1929. Trial to vicinity of mine tunnels near Palms siding ( about 7 miles south of Pocatello). First tunnels were examined; evidence of rats in all. Two adults - Cat nos. 44 - ? and 45 ? taken in tunnel together. One was shot from the wall of the tunnel and the other taken in a crevice about 2 ft from the point where the first was shot. Stomachs of both adults were filled with green chewed pulp; from odor it was composed almost entirely of sage leaves and bud tips, few seed husks. No embryos in uterus of female. On another mine we heard a young rat crying as we entered; we located it in a nest above i. mest about 4 ft above floor of mine and in a crevice 2 ft. deep. Cat. No. 46 - ? in. L. 1.15; T 30; H. F. 18; E. 8; eyes not open probably 10 days old.
