Barretts Ranch - June 10-11-1932 P.I.
In the vicinity of Mr. Barrett's ranch are two active colonies of beaver. Both are on the west fork of Rapid Creek, one just below the ranch about one quarter of a mile, and the other about two miles above his ranch.
We arrived at the upper dam at 5:00 P.M. The creek floor here is about 150 ft wide. The road is on the creek bottom, on the left of the creek as one drives east. The creek itself is a mere slough, four or five feet wide and one foot deep. The immediate creek bank is heavily clothed with willow.
The hills rise abruptly from this narrow creek floor. The north slope has only sagebrush, while on the south is an extended growth of ashen, including an occasional Douglas Fir.
The dam is built entirely across the creek bottom, from the road on the north to the steep hill side on the south. This
