Pocket Sketch. March 9 - 1928. [illegible] within the city limits and on either side of town for two or three miles the Portneuf River is bordered by a strip of land only about one fourth mile wide which we would call distinctly river bottom association. Back of this the land rises more or less abruptly in dry, gravelly hills. This bottom association is often swampy and all very flat. My first sketch was taken in a swampy location in west Creteille within the city limits. No. 123 - 9. The grass here is a mixture of very coarse sough grass, blue grass and sweet clover; sough grass and sweet clover predominating. A few days prior to Mar. 9 was the first time new spring
