Weston 1946 West Gnat. 1 Polioptila caerulea July 1 - Quail Spring Joshua Tree Natl. Mon. San Bernardino Co. Calif. Several times today I have seen two kinds of gnatcatchers, Western and Plumbeous. At 3:40 p.m. while sitting in camp I saw a western and to be sure of its identification, I shot it. Off and on today we (Wad Fox, Dr. R. Stebbins + ?) have heard and seen gnatcatchers flitting about in the catclaw trees in the bottom of the valley along the dry wash.
