Suitable (D. pav) habitat seems
to be plentiful here and for
quite some distances. The following
is an account of the vegetation
around the study site. Mileages
are from Hwy 178 and are in
relations to the study site. 61 miles
SW the canyon is grass on steep slopes
@ 1000 ft. 57 miles SW, at 2000 ft.
we entered foothill woodland. At
41 miles SW we begin at least
locally / partially suitable habitat
(near Kern Canyon Rd), Digger Pine,
Douglas Oak, Rabbit Brush, and less
steep soils. ~~At 35 miles SW the
Valley open up wide. This Valley is
wide from here through Waller
Pass. At 28 m SW Junipers occur
on the SW facing slope. There is
a large open basin from about
2600-2700 ft; this basin contains
Onyx. At 12 m SW have flat,
grass w/ Joshua trees and Rabbit
Brush. ~~By 10 m SW have Joshua
tree woodland, 3000 ft. 2 m E of site
