beechei. Since our hope is to capture descendants of the 1911 population, we needed to trap as close to this site as possible.
Care indicated that the plant community was Great Basin Sagebrush + Joshua Trees. Since the undeveloped area S. of Hwy 178 @ this site is Pinon pine and Juniper, the closes appropriate habitat was just across the road (N) of the 1911 locality.
With the assistance of Svante Pääbo and Tom Kroeber (Both from UCB Biochem) we set 4 lines of 40 traps each. Traps are set in more or less straight lines with one trap every 10-15 meters. Each line has a letter designation and each station on a line has a number designation. A detailed description of the site and trap line location will be elaborated tomorrow. The geographic data is of significance since we are concerned the population
