1.2 mi. S. Chalk Peak, Monterey Co.,
Calif 3250
About 5 miles by road (on Coast Trail)
from Narimiento - Ferguson Rd. The
Coast Trail is a dirt Road (except
as it skirts along chalk peak were
it is paved) that leads to a fork.
This fork is at Plackett Ridge Rd
(heads S.E.) and Prewitt Ridge Rd
(heads W.). About 50 yds north of
the fork (before you come to it)
is a dirt drive that heads East.
Following this drive east, and then
taking the SEast fork (other forks
in this drive heads N.E.) you
come to a wide (E.W.) southfacing
slope. The hills surrounding this
slope are vegetated with Coulter
pine, ceanothus, manzanita, MadroƱo
Eryodictyon + chapparal pea, Quercus
agrifolia. The soil is a course
colbled sandstone. Beyond the
immediate hills (peaks and
along Prewitt & Plackett creek
ridge roads), the y vegetation is
P. ponderosa, Quercus agrifolia, Q. lobot,
Q. wizlosonii & Q. chrysolopus, plus
