Villablanca Journal 1984 shrubs dominates in the valley of Santiago. I would call this an Acacia Thorn scrubs. As you rise slightly the chaparral is dominated by 3 large shrub species, in addition there is a cactus, a silversword (Yucca) + an Erios-genem type plant. No herbs are apparent (this is after the solstice). Some very aromatic shrubs (like sage) occur. Road cuts are granite. At mid elevations, the shrubs fall out of the community. The dominants are low, prostrate, snow toler-rant plants 13 Jan Santiago to Puerto Montt, Chile. Cordillera foothills near Santia-go are both rolling and more newly formed rugged ones. Hills extend from Santiago to the coast. The last 1/3rd of the distance from Santiago to Puerto Montt, the andes are adjacent to a broad alluvial mesa (not lilly).
