Thoreau 1960 Pg.5 Thommys monticolar July 24 Willow Creek Valley, 9.5 mi.s. 41.mi.W Fredonier Reeks, 5000+ ft. Lassen C. Co. Today I got 4 more gophers here. July 27 N side Medicine Lake 6800+ ft. Siskiyou Co., Calif. This locality is at the N side of the lake approximately midway between the E and Westreem arms about 100 yds. back from the lake. The area is forested mostly by lodgepole pines. The soil is very sterile, light colored bits of p[ass] volcanic ash - often to pieces of several mm. dia. Between the stand of pine are open areas & a few bushes and a little grass. Gopher workings are not abundant. I had one gopher out of 7 sets this A.M.
