Thaler 1960 P.1 Thomasys bottae sagatilis Apr. 11 1.4 mi. E, 1.2 mi. N Susanville, 4360+ ft., Lassen Co., Calif. Yesterday afternoon we saw gopher workings here and got out 9 sets. This morning eve each had one gopher (CST #892; R.E.G.#191). This area looks like v. poor gopher habitat. The soil is dry fairly hard, reddish and full of coarse stone. The surface is almost paved with them. A little grass grows around, and there are junipers about 50 yards beyond. The locality is on gently rising ground at the edge of the valley about 350 above it. The slope steepens to the S as one drops down into the valley. The 9 had 5 large embryos (31 mm.) 1.7 mi. E, 1.5 mi. N. Susanville, 4420+ ft. Lassen Co., Calif. We had out 0 sets here overnight and caught one by this A.M. (C.S.T.#891). This place is v. similar to the above, but not quite so many rocks on the surface. This was reprod. active by appearance. Apr. 13 Gold Run Creek, 4.0 mi. S, 1.3 mi. W Susanville, 4380+ ft., Lassen Co., Calif We entered this valley which runs off the main Honey Lake Valley this A.M. Finally secured permission to trap on the ranch of Ronnie Latvia. This area covers the bottom of the valley. Here a meadow stretches across the bottom and up each side about 50' or so above the stream. The N side of the valley is drier drier. On both sides conifer forests come down to the edge of the meadow. Irrigation water is being run through the area
