Thaxter 1960 P.1 Thomasomys bottae (other than zapatae and canus) Apr.16 4.4 mi. N, 2.8 mi. E Calpine, 4900 ± ft., Plumas Co., Calif. We had set three sets just a couple of hours ago, in late afternoon. When we pulled our traps at about 6:45 PM (REG #223) we had one of this species here. This area is just off the road to the W on the land that rises up from the valley floor to the base of the buttes. The soil is brownish, relatively easy digging, dry. The area is covered by grass and annuals, nothing very tall. [illegible] [illegible] June 17 0.3 mi. W, 0.2 mi. S Belleker 4840 ± ft., Plumas Co., Calif. yesterday we noted gopher working in the alfalfa field here, just S of the road (US40A). This field is only a .14 mi. N of the river (Middle Fork of the Feather) which is in the flat river valley. Today I had 3 gophers here. 0.2 mi. W Blairsden, 4390 ± ft., Plumas Co., Calif. yesterday I got out about 15 gopher sets here. This locality is just S of the railroad and E of Pt. 8-9 on the Wedge of Blairsden. The field is in grass and alfalfa. Much of the field the soil is relatively soft, but at the S edge gophers were in very hard ground. The soil is rocky. This locality is on some hills above the river. July 1956 had a number of gophers. My sets produced 4.
