Dec. 10 Upper Pierce Ranch, 300+ ft., Marin Co. Calif.
After supper I took a shot at a gray fox in
the yard of the ranch. Although I hit him he
was able to run off and I lost him in the dark.
Later the 5 of us returned to the bay beach. Dr.
Benson demonstrated rather successfully his game
call on a gray fox. We saw numerous deer, fox
and racoon in the light from flashlits and
headlamps. Dr. Benson had a fox in a steel
trap at the beach.
We continued north for about 1/2 mile,
then W to the road and track to the ranch.
I turned in about 10.
Dec. 11. Upper Pierce Ranch, Marin Co. to Berkeley:
Up about 7:00 AM. After breakfast I checked my
traps and got 4 foxes (Vulpes vulpes) and 6 Peromyscus
maniculatus. We packed up and left about 10:30 AM.
Stopped to pick up the mountain beaver traps
before returning to Berkeley about 3:30 PM.
