July29 Red Mtn. Shasta Co. to Berkeley Calif.
Unfortunately we had not bothered to put
up a tent last night. This morning about 4AM
it began to rain. We retreated to the truck for
an hour or so and by 5:45 or so it was light enough
to pick up the traps. My snap trap line yielded
nothing and I got only 2 gophers in my other
traps. In the process I got soaked to the
skin by vegetation - it had largely stopped raining.
We ate breakfast and packed up and left by about
7 A.M. However we were able to check our location
before we left with a Forest Service fire fighting
crew who were checking on a smoke report.
We continued on for about 4 miles and hit a
better road south to Big Bend. From here we
drove across the valley to Riddling and I looked
to Berkeley by late afternoon.
