Thacker 1960 Journal p.36 July 26 Dickerson Flat to Medicine Lake, iskiyou Co. Calt. 6500+; Up at 5:45 A.M. I had two T. mayama. After breakfast we skinned until about 9:30 AM. Off about 10:30 AM. Drove on to Bartle, here we turned right (North) off Rt. 89 toward Medicine Lake. About a mile N of Bartle we stopped and set out some gopher traps but failed to catch any in an hour and a half. Continued on again, stopping one-half a mile S of Slogger Camp to set traps again. Dr. Benson got a T. manicula. Here there was the bottom of a valley just beside (E) of the road. It seems forested of firs and yellow pine, & open spaces covered by low brush and grass. The valley floor was slightly sloping. We continued to Medicine Lake. Stopped for water at the Harris Sp. Guard Station. Hike up just east of Pumice Stone Mtn., and Paint Pot Crater. We stopped at Pumice Clue Well, 6200+ ft., T.42N, R2E, sec 14. Here we found many larval salamanders, tadpoles and some Ryla regilla. We collected some. This area is covered & v. light colored sand,- sandy and rocky in texture consistency. It appears v. well drained. These areas are forested by solid stands of lodgepole pine. After collecting the amphibians and bathing, we continued on to Medicine Lake, camping about the middle of the N shore. After supper I got out 7 gopher sets.
