July 19 (sat) High Rock Ranch, R28N, T17E, sec 25, Lassen Co., Calif.
Peromyscus maniculatus in addition to the Dipos I put up.
After breakfast we broke camp and returned to the
High Rock Ranch. Mr. Blooker who works this ranch
gave us permission to camp in a shed on the ranch, and
to trap gophers. We spent the next 2 hrs putting
out gopher traps in some fields S of the Ranch
buildings, one a dry field and a second I hay
that was being cut. An early alfalfa field seemed
to have no gophers.
After this about 11/4 AM we started skinning,
Continuing until late afternoon. About 7 PM we
drove E across the state line again & set
swaps traps. Returned both tonights and
last long nights trapping have been in covers
of loose soil (tonight more sandy - near some
sand dunes) covered & sage and other desert
brushes. Returned to the ranch for a late supper
and tea & bed about 10 PM.
July 20 High Rock Ranch, R28N, T17E sec 25 Lassen Co., Calif.
Up early, about 5:30 AM and went to check
traps. In addition to those specimens I put
up I had one young Dipodomys microps ?, 9 young
D. ordii ??, 4 ?? and 11 young D. merriami'
??, 6 ?? . Returned to camp, checked gopher
traps without success, but Dr. Berson got
4 Thomomys bottae census (also I last evening).
Dr. Berson also had one Microdepudops and
