Thacker 1960 journal PZC July 17 Berkeley to 3.5 mi. N, 3.2 mi. W Milford, 4070±ft., Lassen Co., Calif. left Berkeley about 10:30 AM for the Honey Lake Valley. Dr. Benson and I lead the MVZ. Clear, We drove up by way of Reno, Nev. where we stopped for lunch about 3 PM. Dr. Benson succeeded in making the stop pay. From Reno we drove N on US 395. We looked at several localities around Merleng where I'd collected T. bottacensis and T. townsendi 15 mos. ago. Along the road that runs E & Merleng from US 395 and it several localities was noted that the T. townsendi localities were all in salt grass while the T. bottae localities were above this in areas where saltgrass no longer grew or at least not so evidently anyway. We continued N from here stopping at the ranch of Mr. Eagle just W of Milford. He gave us permission to camp and trap gophers on his place. I got out 11 sets in an alfalfa field in burrows that were obviously T. townsendi. After supper we turned in as soon as it got cool enough to get into a sleeping bag. July 18 3.5 mi. N, 3.2 mi. W Milford to mi. N, mi.W Flannigan, Washoe Co., Nev. Up about 6 AM. After breakfast we checked our traps. I had 4 T. townsendi, Dr. Benson 2; one from a field of rye just W of the road (US 395). After gutting the gophers & looked for gophers W of the road on the gently sloping and ground where a stream (dry) comes down from the mtns. This area
