July 17 Berkeley to 3.5 mi. N, 3.2 mi. W Milford, 4070±ft., Lassen Co., Calif.
left Berkeley about 10:30 AM for the Honey Lake Valley. Dr. Benson and I lead the MVZ. Clear,
We drove up by way of Reno, Nev. where we stopped
for lunch about 3 PM. Dr. Benson succeeded in
making the stop pay. From Reno we drove
N on US 395. We looked at several localities
around Merleng where I'd collected T. bottacensis
and T. townsendi 15 mos. ago. Along the road
that runs E & Merleng from US 395 and it
several localities was noted that the T. townsendi
localities were all in salt grass while the
T. bottae localities were above this in areas
where saltgrass no longer grew or at
least not so evidently anyway.
We continued N from here stopping at the
ranch of Mr. Eagle just W of Milford. He gave us
permission to camp and trap gophers on his place.
I got out 11 sets in an alfalfa field in burrows that
were obviously T. townsendi. After supper we turned
in as soon as it got cool enough to get into a sleeping
bag.
July 18 3.5 mi. N, 3.2 mi. W Milford to mi. N, mi.W Flannigan, Washoe Co., Nev.

looked for gophers W of the road on the gently sloping and ground
where a stream (dry) comes down from the mtns. This area
