Thacker 1960 Journal 9.19 June 16 (cont.) 3.2 mi. W, 0.2 mi. N Calpine, 5680 ± ft., Sierra Co., Calif. N toward Beckworth. We made two gopher sets just S of the bridge over the Feather River near Beckworth. From here we headed W along US40 Alt. three Portola to Delleker. Just W of this latter town we saw some gopher workings in an alfalfa field but didn't set any traps. Then continued along HDA to the junct. of Rt. 89 near Blauden, turning onto Rt. 89. About 1/4 mi. from junct, just beyond the Railroad underpass we stopped and set about 40 gopher sets. While we were working Pete got bitten by a young gopher which we were able to get out of its burrow without trapping it. It proved to be a T. bottae. We then returned and set traps in the alfalfa field near Delleker. We got out about 10 sets here. The field was really over run & Citellus beldingi. I estimate that in about a 4 or 5 acre field there must have been nearly 200 animals. We then returned to camp via Blauden and Rt. 89. After supper we tried to shoot bats but no success near camp. I spent the night catching up on skinning until 5 A.M. June 17 3.2 mi W, 0.2 mi. N Calpine, 5680 ± ft., Sierra Co., Calif to Berkeley Up at 6 AM, broke camp and left to pull up our gopher traps about 8 AM. We stopped at our station Blauden and each took 6 T. bottae. At the Delleker locality Pete had none and I had 3 T. bottae. Nothing in the two sets near Beckworth. We drove on home to Berkeley arriving about 4:30 PM
