June 13th. 3.2 mi W, 0.2 mi N Calpine, 5680 +/- ft., Sierra Co., Calif -
On their Mr. T-rell mentioned some large
trapping success a quiet trapper had had on coyote
the previous winter in the valley. We took off
the Sierra Valley Road alone.
After setting out our gopher traps we returned
to Calpine and drove coyote over present camp.
This area is very pleasant, relatively moist - forests
by cedar, fir, spruce and pine. This area is largely
second growth, however there are a few big trees around.
We heard both Willow and Hermit Thrushes while
having supper.
About 8:50 PM we saw the first bat fly and
spent the next 35 minutes shooting. Pete got
one Lasionyctis and a Myotis evotis, I missed a
couple of times, about 10:00 PM I got out about 70
snap traps.

Up rather late this AM. about 7:45 AM. Checked my snaptraps
but no result. After breakfast we headed on down into the
valley and drove up the W side. Checked an locality at 3.5 mi N,

we continued N about 2 mi. and looked over a couple
of fields for gophers workings near the place where
I had taken a T. bottae last spring (4.4 mi N, 1.5 mi E Calpine)
still no sign of gophers, although we looked around in an old alfalfa
field. Returning S along the road we took turns walking along the
