acin 1956 Page 10 Journal Enroute saw Turkey Vulture (1), Calif Gull (1), Sparrow Hawk (1), Flicker(1), Scrub-jay (1). Over Bolinas 4 White Pelicans. Stinson Beach at 12:50 P.M. Few birds present, developed car trouble and forced to return to San Francisco. Jan.17 at 3:30 P.M. needed break from exam study. Went Berkeley Municipal Pier. At east end of pier across road from Berkeley City Dump numerous gulls feeding - mostly Shortbills (15+), also several Ring-billed (5), California (8), and Westerns (3-4). Numerous unidentified imm. gulls. Three 4 preps present. Three Bonapart's Gulls seen over bay, also Western Gabeles, Horned Gulls and Scampso. and Ruddy's. Many gulls were feeding in the city dump. A quick look showed that these were mostly Glaucus-winged. The remainder were Western Gulls. About 4:25 PM proceeded to At Aquatic Park (Berkeley) Most waterfowl were concentrated at the southern end of the lake. Am. Golden-eye G or 10 Pairs? Baldpate Ruddy Ducks Hooded Merganser 1 F Small Hawk (Sharp-Shinned?) carrying small bird in Talons, flow across lake (W to E) and disappeared and confers along E shore. Pied-billed Grebes Horned Grebes Bufflehead, G Sand & F? Eared Grebe Coot Snowy Egret Cormorants (either D. C or Brandt)
