Thacker 1960 Journal P.12. Apr.15am) Elysium Valley to Portola Plumas Co. Calif. About a few miles to a public camp grounds and spent the night. Apr.16. Portola, Plumas Co. to Berkeley, Alameda Co. Calif. Up early just before 7:00 after a cold night. After we broke camp we drove south to check our traps 5 of blue and picked up 3 T. marticaula We then drove S about 3½ mi. and took a slit road to the east out across the valley floor. The central part of the valley is very wet. Big borrow pits flank the road on either side and beyond there are rather extensive marshes in some places. Numerous shorebirds and a few ducks were seen. After driving E for a couple of miles we were forced to stop while several local men pulled a car back onto the road. It had almost gone into the borrow pit and was clear over the edge of the road. While we helped, we were told that geckers could be found out in this part of the valley some of the time, in the higher places but that few had been seen this spring supposedly the weather conditions, an early thaw and late freeze had killed them off. After 45 min. we were able to continue. After driving almost entirely across this southern arm of the valley we turned S on a dirt road
