Thacker 1960 Apr. 11 (cont) Journal. p. 5 Secret Valley to McAllister Ranch, 4.3 mi. N., 3.4 mi. W. Litchfield, 4160 ± ft. Lassen Co., Calif. end of the valley by fording a stream or two. We drove back toward Karls for about 5 miles and saw three gophers working along the road enroute. There we trapped. Here the road runs on an embankment above a broad, flat area almost devoid of vegetation. We then turned back toward the Honey Lake valley on U.S. 395. As we went over the low divide between Secret Valley and Honey Lake Valley we saw more diggings and set gopher traps. As we came down off the divide we began to see the big T. Townsendi mounds about 1 mi. of the junction of U.S. 395 and the road east to Wendel. We finished our circuit around Mt. Schaffer by returning to the place where we had crossed Willow Creek in the morning. Checked our gopher traps south of here too also. The small ranch just west of the road, along Willow Creek is owned by Mr. McAllister. He gave us permission to set traps for gophers and camp on his property. This place is referred to as Belfast on the Litchfield Quad., 1954 ed. (1:62500) Mr. McAllister told us he had gophers on his land along the stream but said he never saw them on high level, cultivated behind this ranch (w/ the stream.) We set up camp, put out gopher traps, and spent some time skinning after repper.
