Left Berkeley & Marianne Hobbs at 12 noon. Across Bay Bridge
and south to Rt 1 and hence to the Court. Stopped several times but
didn't see anything from the standpoint of bird life. Stopped at
Rockaway Beach 1/2 mi. S. of town of Rockaway Beach. Saw
5 Baird's Cormorant, 4 Brant's Cormorant (?), several Western Grebes,
and Eared Grebes, one Harlequin Duck, White-winged and
Short-billed Western
Lurk Scoters, numerous Hullets, Horned Grebes, and Old Squaws. Also
Meadowlark and Killdeer.
Continued down to Moss Beach - no bird of note seen.
Over Half-moon Bay Road to Crystal Reservoir. At south end
of Upper Crystal Springs Reservoir saw flock of ducks composed
mostly of Shovelers estimated about 4000+. Also present were
few Baldpates (50+), Coot (30+), Mallard (20+). Returned to
Berkeley via Burlingame and Bay Shore Freeway.
