Tbael 1954 Journal p.3 Apr 3 (Sat) Herlay, Lassen Co., Calif. Traps at Pocland's Ranch and the sets along the road N of Doyle. The latter yielded one Thomasys townsendii from the set just off the paving of the road. I returned to Herlay after dark. Apr 4 Herlay, Lassen Co., Calif. I returned to Pocland's Ranch this AM & J.M. Carley and picked up my gopher sets and trapline. The trapline yielded a Deoclanys panamius, 2 Reithrodontomys megalotis and 6 Peromyscus maniculatus. I checked the traps on the sand dunes near Herlay and took several Thomasys batten! Also the two sets along the road near Herlay yielded another T. battae. I spent the remainder of the AM skiing. In the PM, Marianne and I went out set more traps. I had previously seen so many large gopher mounds along the road from Herlay S to US 395, in fields along the west side of the Long Valley Creek. Since I could not find people at home at the farm nearby, it being late afternoon I contented myself with making some sets adjacent to the fields, along the road right-of-way. I got out 5 sets in these workings which must be T. townsendii from the range of the mounds and the tunnels. I set out two more sets along the road north of here where I had secured the T. battae this AM. Then I headed down the road that runs E-W between Herlay and US 395. Just to the W of the junction of E-W and N-S roads to Herlay
