from US 395 just before the underpass under the
W. P. railroad tracks. After checking and resetting my
traps I secured permission from Mr. Rowland to trap
on his land near the stream. I drove back to
US 395 and south along it to a point opposite the
Rowland Ranch Bldgs. This area west (West) to the road
is low and somewhat marshy, covered by grass and
low trees. Beyond the higher ground grass covered but
sparsely so a few scattered bushes. It is grazed.
After an hours search I'd seen no gopher sign.
I did find about 50 Muskrat specials and returned
to Herling. On the way I saw some gopher workings
just W of US 395, north of where it crosses Long Valley
Creek. I stopped and put out 3 sets, all within 7 ft.
of the road.

along the roads as I drove or in the sagebrush or
short walks I took away from the road. On the
way back to Herling I noticed some mounds on
a bare sand dune a quarter of a mile away.

way back to Herling I set out two sets along the road
(CO 4 mi S, 1.6 mi W Herling). In the late afternoon I rechecked my
