Thacker 1959 journal p.1 Apr.2 Berkeley to Herlong, Lassen Co., Calif. Left Berkeley at 8:15 AM & family in tow for Herlong. We came up by way of Reno arriving here at the Corleys by 3:30 PM. The trip was without unusual event. A golden eagle (?) was seen just W of Auburn. Most of winter snowfall had melted. Only above 5500' on the W side was the cover more than in the most protected areas. After arriving at Herlong John Michael Corley took me to the Rawland Ranch just SW of Doyle and introduced me to the Roland. (Mr. Roland) He was more than willing to let me trap gophers on this place and showed me an area in a pasture near the house where there was much indication of gopher activity. He remarked that about the presence of a large light colored gopher to be found around Floney Felke. I took this to mean he had not heard of them from much south of there. We were able to get about 20 traps out before dark. After supper I put out 45 museum specials on the sagebrush flat just SW of Herlong. Apr.3 Herlong, Lassen Co., Calif. Picked up my trapline near town this AM and had two Peromyscus maniculatus. After breakfast I drove down to the Rawland Ranch near Doyle. This is 2.2 mi. by road from where this road turns right
