Myotis velifer
July 18
Mountaineer (New Era) Mine, 7504 ft., 5.5 mi. S, 0.6 mi. E Yelada, Riverside Co., Calif.
At this mine (see Journal and Opus. of Macrotes californicus of this date and local for further information)
only a few of this species were seen in the upper levels of the mine and then they were noted only in flight not roosting. However at the lower levels, the third and fourth they were seen in greater numbers. In one or two places fair sized clusters (50+) were seen but were inaccessible.
On the fifth or lowest level these bats were extremely abundants. Many large clusters, several hundred or more,
were seen. Beckman & I collected about 150 with no trouble. I put up 24 (645-668) of these.
July 19.
On the following day we found that there were fewer
of these bats to be found. Those that were seen were
in areas places that did not permit easy collecting,
