Vallecitos stage station, San Diego Co., Calif.
At Beck took several of these night roosting
in the stage station bldg. I plan to put several
of them up. ( nos 533-534 )
July 15
Caught another of these bats while it was night
roosting in the stage building about 12:30 (actually
July 16, 1955) I froze it and prepared it later (557)
July 16
Tunco Mine, 700± ft., Imperial Co., Calif.
Several bats of this kind were seen in
a horizontal mine shaft about 14 mi. W of where
we were camped, along the north side of the
valley. One of these was collected (546) while at
least 3 others escaped. Macrotes californicus were also seen
in the same shaft.
July 8.
Mountaineer (New Era) Mine, 750± ft., 5.5 mi. S, .6 mi. E Vicks Reserve Staging
Two or three bats of this species were seen roosting in
the horizontal shaft on the north side of the canyon at this
mine. None were collected, however. (for further details see
sp. acc. Macrotes californicus of this date and local.)
