Thueler 1958 Species Account p.2 Thomomys monticola monticola. p.2 June 16 Ferrero Ranch, 1/2 mi. N Mt. Shasta P.O., 3600+ ft. (T.40N, R.4W, Siskiyou Co., Calif. - This A.M. we checked our traps here. I had Gophers: 3 ad. M M, 2 ad. F F, 1 young ?. Nos 468-473). The total "catch" from here amounted to 25 animals. Of these only two were juvenile. This is a much smaller proportion than we had of the other kind of gopher. Also the males of this species seem seemed to be well past breeding condition as their testes were soft and rather dark in color. Their epididymis epididymes were somewhat smaller. The reproductive tract of the females were different in females. The uterine horns were generally much smaller (possibly due to longer elapsed time since birth of young) and the vaginas were short. June 17 Spr. Cr. Ranch (Koyte's), 3600+ ft., 0.4 mi W Big Spr. Siskiyou Co. Calif. (T. 40N, R. 4W sect.8) Weed This A.M. I had two gophers in a single double set here. One was an adult male, very large & a short baculum, the other a young female. This field is planted in alfalfa, an upland variety. The soil is very hard with much rock in it. This field had been plowed and disked this spring. Vegetation was sparse in some places. The surrounding area was mostly brush covered. This evening I had caught 7 gophers in the field across the road, to the east of the one mentioned above. These included: 2 ad. M M, 2 ad F F, 2 young M M. We'd got an ad F before
