Dec. 22
San Pablo Creek (saltmarsh), Richmond, Contra Costa Co., Calif.
George Fisher and I left campus about 1: P.M.
to get to this locality. George had been there
previously to trap. We enquired at the home of the
Rante's about permission to enter the marsh
behind their house. They told us Stand Oil (ofld)
owned the area. After much running around
we talked to two men in the Plant Protection
of the Richmond Refinery. They assured us we could
go into the area.
Upon returning to the marsh we walked around
for a while. Microtus sign was abundant.
Finally I settled on a place to trap and started
setting out traps. Soon a local farmer,
came up and told us he rented the land from Stand Oil.
Finally we talked him into letting us continue our
trapping. I got out only 52 traps by dark but already
had 6 Microtus.
Dec. 23.
Checked my traps this A.M. and took one forex onitis.
