Thaeler 1958 Pg 28 Journal July 19 Mountaineer Mine to Davis, Calif (cont) were not present in the mine at all. The Macrotes had, by enlarged, left these mines altogether. At the second mine where yesterday we had found perhaps 1500+ bats, today there were scarcely 150+ We did secure about 40 Macrotes and some more Myotis. We got back to the car about dark and started back to Davis after dinner at Vidal Junction. We went via Pinnacles, Amboy, Barstow, Mohave, and Beckwield arriving about 1:30 PM July 20 at Davis. Sept. 16 1.0 mi N, 2.0 mi E Martiney, Contra Costa Co., Calif. This afternoon George Foster and I drove out to Martiney, he to catch Reithros, & Microtus We set out both live and snap traps. I got out about two hundred snaps, George about 40live traps and 60 snap traps. Sept. 17 Checked traps at Martigey but took no Microtus. I did get a good number of shrews (Sorex ornatus) and both Reithroclontmys megalotis and R. halotus. Sept. 18 I got 3 Microtus finally. Sept. 19 Again no Microtus but shrews and Reithros usual. Sept. 20 One Microtus. Moved the location of most of my traps.
