After struggling for 20 min. or so we were able to lift the rock enough to get a shot at the snake and getting bitten. It proved to be a Crotalus mitchelli. While checking and retrieving traps that evening I got a [illegible] tremodophorus out of one of them. During the day the heat was oppressive. This was heightened by a lack of water. The area has no springs or wells so our water was limited to what we had brought in. About 1 P.M. Beck returned with several bats he had found. These included 7 Eptesicus and 3 Pipistrellus that I put up. The remainder he banded and released. July 18 Tunco Mines to Mountainer Mine, Riverside Co., Calif.
