Journal P. 22 July 15 (cont.) Vallecito Stage Station, San Diego Co., Calif. valley between the mtn. ranges. He said he hadn't seen any for 4 or 5 years. However Al Beck said he had noticed what he thought to be scat and tracks where we had set traps, 1/2 miles east of the stage station, here the valley is the narrowest and according to Benoit it is a regular crossing. Other mammals seen commonly while we were here included jack rabbits, cottontails and antelope ground squirrels. Also Benoit mentioned that the man who owns the Crawford Ranch is a terrible recently about trespassing. If someone wanted to trap in there per- mision might be secured ahead of time by writing Mr. Robt. Crawford, Agua Caliente Springs Rural Station, Julien, Calif. July 16. Vallecito to Texas Mines, Imperial Co., Calif. Up at about 6:45 AM to check traps. I had two Reithrodontomys and one Microtus in the grass at the Stage station, one Dipus, one Perognathus, and one Peromyscus cremicus from 1/2 mile east, 2 Dipus, 5 Perognathus (sp.? ) and 1 Perognathus spinatus from the stage station and one Neotoma from the same place as previously, and 4 Dipus (2 discarded) and Perognathus from Mason Valley. About 1 P.M. we left Vallecito. We drove south to
