Chaleu 1958 Journal pg 12 June 17 (cont.) Mt. Shasta, Siskiyou Co., Calif. singles were set across (east side) of the road, Pine Grove Drive, from those set last evening. Then we went south about 1/4 mi., down a rather sharp slope and I set 5 doubles and one single in this field. It was planted with alfalfa & much grass and clover. Ray Hill accompanied us during the morning and was of great assistance in locating gopher working, and helping in setting of traps. On the way out we stopped at by the Hoyt house and took a single young male gopher. During the afternoon I skinned. We ate a quick meal in town and checked the traps at the Hoyt Ranch. Those Ray and I had set on the higher field (mentioned first above) yielded ten gophers, one had been caught before we left in the morning. The lower field yielded four & 2 out of six sets. On the way out we checked the other set by the Hoyt house and took one &. June 18. Up by 6:30 this morning. Spent the A.M. checking and setting traps at the Hoyt Ranch. I took four young gophers here this morning. The afternoon was spent in Skenny. After supper we returned to Hoyt's. We stopped to talk with the doctor and his wife. They told us that owned by their land had been forest and brush ten years ago and they had cleared most of the present fields themselves. I had three gophers in traps this evening.
