We inquired about camping - were told we could camp anywhere in the Forest. The head ranger showed us St. John Camp - Merriam's gopher locality of 1897. He has done some trapping and claimed he'd caught about 500 (?) gophers from one field of alfalfa (now in oats) last year. After securing wire to support markers we had lunch in town. We started to set out gopher traps about 1:30 P.M. All told we put out about 84 traps, I had out 40 soite of which about 6
