Journal pg 14 Kingbird Western flycatchers common in situations where mostly pasture and scattered trees. Ash-throated Flycatcher common usually where more trees than situations favored by Western Kingbird. Violet-green Swallow common throughout area. Calif. Jay common where scattered trees, Steller's jay in more wooded situations. Crow and Ravens both present, the Raven living perhaps the more common of the two. Plain titmouse common in wooded and woodland areas. White-br. Nuthatches observed in areas & plain tits. Bush-tits common in areas & plain titmice. Bewick's Wren seen around hedgts. Robins common in woods & [illegible] Western bluebird common in woodland or more open areas. Warbling Vireo often heard in wooded areas. Redwings common around the lakes in Lake pasture. Western Meadow- lark present but not too common, only in v. open situation. Several pairs of Bullock's Orioles seen in woodland areas. Cowbirds seen in open and woodland situations. Sissetts fairly common in open and woodland areas. Morning doves ad. Throughout except deepest woods. Calif Quail commonly seen along roads in brush, and woodland situations. Several Red-tailed Hawks in area. One pair were very disturbed over my presence in South pasture. Sparrow-hawks common. Turkey Vultures v. common, always in view. Kilder along Paren's Creek adj to Hedgts. Great Blue Heronson flying over woods near lakes on June 6 (A.M.) Red-shafted flicker occasionally seen in woodland areas. Pileated Woodpek in heavy wooded areas, often heard. Downy titlpek in woods and woodland situations. Nuttall's seen once in woodland but not necessarily uncommon. Sayuli hunting in woodland of Brush Pasture on June 6. Thirty snap traps set in rocky sclerophyll scrub of Wate- lank pasture, elk 900'. June Eleven P. trees taken in snap traps in Waterlank field.
