Shoshone, Lincoln County Co., Idaho - Dec. 23, 1936
Arrived in Shoshone from Minidoka at about
2:00 P.M. Looked up a Mr Claude Wilson who
told me of Mr Yumgard, a trapper for the
Biological Survey who lived on the edge of
town. Mr. Yumgard was away at the time
but his son gave me most of the information
I wanted. There are only two persons in the
immediate vicinity who might give me fells
or information. One is Bill [illegible] Nelson who
lives in District and is occasionally in town
and Mr Garner, the district Game Warden.
Yumgard hiked over with me to Garner's
house, woke him up and introduced me. He
was a pleasant fellow, and we talked about
traps and trappers for nearly two hours. He
was well acquainted with the country had trapped
around this district for many years, and knew
practically all the trappers by name. As I
mentioned the various species of mammals he
responded as follows: Coyotes are very common
on the plains and are being trapped continually
by local trappers in the winter for the fur, and
in the summer for the bounty. River Otter are
occasionally caught in the Woods River but the
fells are now only worth about 8 or 9 dollars.
Badgers are common on the plains and are trapped
