Thurs. June 2. Hot and sultry. Went for a long hunt North of
town along the telegraph line road, (Yellow Telegraph)
it is dry poplar country with a few clearings and
no life at all. Altogether I got two red squirrels,
a chipmunk, a caster snake, Juneo, and Redstart.
Saw Barn, Cave, V.G. and Tree Swallows over
the tour. Also saw Lance Swifts (ro) near a
tie dead cottonwood. Sleamed all afternoon I
put up about four specimens while Mr. Smith
put up sixteen! The river is still rising. Got
a smudge to drive the Mosquitos out of
th cabin tonight & cheerful ones as to
what is coming!
