SAN JOSE
May 22. Drove from Rancho San Antonio del Mar to
Rancho San Jose, up and over more hills than I thought
were in the peninsula -- upper Sonoran zone stuff. Very
hard grades -- walked and pushed occasionally. Much
brush country. Finally arrived at San Jose, a beautiful
little green valley under the main Martir ridge, with a
