NW SE San Benito Peak, 4400'; San Benito Co., Calif.
Aug 6-12. This animal was extremely abundant in the manganita chaparral and in more or less scattered manganita bushes in this area, its various calls being characteristic noises here. One shot on August 7 had a Manganite berry in its cheek (moult pattern shown on adjacent page). These animals were noticeably less common in the turned over ridges to the east where the bell spanworm occurs.
