RW Stone 1944 Sinnets May 26 Richmond Shipyard Number Two, Richmond, Contra Costa County, California. 11:30 to 12 N. Was taken by Earl Rose, the yard photographer from yd. one to yd. two to identify some birds which were nesting on top of the scaffolding on way one where a victory ship was being built. After waiting about half an hour, both parents (Sinnets) appeared & fed the three young which were about ready to leave the nest (according to Mr Rose they left on the 27th). The nest was on a board between two upright boards (2x4's or 4x4') and about 60' above the ground. It was 3 to 4 feet from a board walk where workmen passed all day & night. With the constant noise of rivetting & clipping & lights at night it is remarkable that the nest was successful. The nest was at about the main deck level, near the stern of the ship & on the East side, i.e. toward way 2 which was perhaps 60 feet away. The photographs were taken by Mr Rose on May 25.
