New Stones

Crotia tenuis
1.
Head of Strawberry Canyon, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif.
March 1, 1942
I found a small snake of this species coiled up under a small rock near the top of a hill. The rock had not been in place long, and there was considerable dried grass under it. At first glance, the snake looked like a large Batrachoseps but was rather bright red on the back and had the red of the back bordered by two brighter red bands. The snake was about 6" long and torpid when found. Walt Dalquest found one under very similar conditions about a week ago. It was also under a small rock with dried grass underneath it.
