was low. Drove south along range to & a short distance beyond a small lake. Decided we had gone too far & came back taking an old mine road down the mountains. After 6 or 8 miles the road became impassible for 150 yards in a gorge. After looking the situation over carefully me decided it best to spend the better part of the day repairing the road. Which we did spending the time from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM in the process, pausing twice to swim in a good pool in the stream. Found a Black Phoebe's nest on a small cliff by the swimming hole, and fish in the stream (minnows). There were no fish up at our camp in the upper part of this drainage. Finally got through & drove to main road which we hit about 8 miles S of Hernandez. According to people met at the bottom we were the first car to get through in a water of years. Drove to Coolinga where we filled up with gas & water & then went east 9 miles to a small draw with a fairly good growth of Atuplex in it & camped under a cottonwood along the side of it. Set out 35 traps baited with oatmeal and went to bed.
