Im SE San Benito Peale, 4400, San Benito Co., Caly.
Aug 9. was coming up again - Adenostoma, Eumomites,
margarita,
scrub oak, & Mt. mohogany underneath the burned
trunks & branches grew grass, a germitory
(ediniocystis) prider poppy;
(collected), and a great deal of Yerba Santa. The
ridge top & N & E exposures were covered with a
dense, high chaparral - mostly scrub oak &
Mt. mohogany, along the top I collected a red
Delphinium & saw Penstemon (small whiteone).
at the south end, the ridge was rocky and
supported a more varied plant association
with Yucca (which grew also on the W slope)
zaucleriaia, & Pellaea mucronate. I found only
one plant which was too dry & brittle to save).
There was also a tall red & spiked flower
past blooming & red thistles which
seemed to attract Selasphorus hummers.
Here all the seloporus were accidentally rather than graciously
Dipo workings were all around the
ridge especially near the top and chipmunk
were also present although less numerous
than in the margarita's rear camp. There
was a flat a good way down the west
slope where there was a concentration
of Bell Sparrows. This flat was
sandy & supported a scattered growth of
large Mt mohogany & Scrub oak, with
a scattering of Pines & live oaks. There
were also a few Bell sparrows scattered
