2mi. N Occidental, Sonoma Co., Calif to Berkeley, Alta. Co.
ran through an old, caved-in tunnel
which looked like a good place for
bats but as we didn't have flashlights
with us at the moment and the
wood shoring looked rather rough we
did not enter. Along the side of
the road bed was an old coat covered
with Polypodium californicum,
Selaginella (wallacei?) which I collected, an
hepatic which was fruiting heavily,
and a fair number of plants of Pellaea
andromedifolia and some Gymnograme.
Other Pteridophytes in neighborhood of
camp included Polystichum minutum,
Woodwardia, Dryopteris Argutina, 1/2 Pteris.
Hunted Phraconys until about 10:30AM
when we broke camp and started back
to Berkeley via the San Rafael Ferry arriving
about 2:30 PM in Berkeley. Saw 2 Herring
Gulls from the ferry.
Addendum. Saw Yellow-shafted Flicker near
Sebastopol on the way up (the 13th)
saw both the yellow wing linings and red
wasp as he lit on a fruit tree but didn't stop.
