Pleasure 1942 Carmel + Vicinity, Monterey Co., Calif. March 7, 1942. 4:15 - 5:45 PM (nt 'Lobo' outing) has been suspected of nesting here but the nest site has never been located. An owl pellet + the remains of a second were found in a grove of Monterey Pines near the gate. They were turned over to Warden Wilson, & contained 14 finches + 1 rabbit (probably Sylvilagus and some arm bones which may have been something else). The pellets were probably those of a Great Horned Owl. List of birds seen: Horned Lark (singing- Brandt Cormorant 20+ Hermit Thrush 1 White-c. Scoter 2 Squab " 1 Red-tailed Hawk 1 Duck " 1 Oystercatcher (Black) 3 Western Gull sw. Hairy Woodpecker 1 Blacks Plover 2 Burdit 6+ (winter when) Whentit 4+ House Finch 15+ White-c. Sparrow 10+ Sparrows 2 On the return trip we saw a Red-tailed Merganser with a ? American Merganser (miscegeny!) + a small flock of robins.
