Rosston 1942 11. Strawberry Canyon, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. February 22, 1942 10:30-11:15 AM. Canyon Drive and the Lutescent Warbler Territory in the wet chaparral & live oaks south and uphill from the old swimming pool. Clear and cool. Aside from a little rain during the last two days the weather has been clear for over two weeks. The North-facing slope of the canyon is still quite wet. No Lutescent Warblers, but the following birds were present. Red-tail Hawk 1 Bewicks Wren 1 Anna Hummer 2 Robin 8 Allen's " 1 Varied Thrush 4 Flicker 1 Hermit " 3 Downy Woodpecker 1 Ruby-c. Kinglet 5 Black Phoebe 1 Green-b. Goldfinch 5 Calif. Jay 2 Brown Towhee 2 Bush-tit 20 Spotted " 12 Wrentit 3 Fox Sparrow 2 Song " 3 Picked up tail feathers & primaries of Spotted Towhee in the path.
