Summary of the Shinnell Naturalists' trips
to Stockton, Calif. on January 18, 1942.
Left Berkeley about 7:45 AM with
Herman Schwartz, Tom Rodgers, Dick Hiel, Dick
Taber, and Red Stone. Drove to Stockton where
we met Jack Arnold at the Campus of
Pacific Union College. Drove north and
hiked in the area adjacent to the San
Joaquin River for about 5 miles N Stockton.
10 AM to 4 PM. Pt. cloudy. Warm in sun. The
area consists of open fields, mostly used
for grazing, and willow-growths near
the water. The birds seen included:
Pied-bill Grebe 2 Turkey Vulture 20
